Wanting a Different Future?
Do you ever feel like your life is out of your control, or that things aren’t the way you want them to be? Maybe you don’t know what you want to do or be in the future, but you have a feeling that you’re not headed in the right direction. At ARMS, we can give you the tools to set goals and learn how to reach them.
Be Your Own Person, Set Your Own Goals
Unlike other substance use disorder treatment programs, ARMS welcomes you and your family, even if you’re not yet ready to face your substance use. We want to help you gain control of your life, so that when you do decide to tackle your substance-related concerns, your recovery will be more likely to succeed. We will also encourage you to find a community that can support you as you make healthier choices, which may include sobriety.
We want to help you gain control of your life.
You tell us what you want to achieve, and we’ll help you to get there, whether you want to complete a vocational program, find a job, get an apartment or cut down on your substance use. By creating a new, more positive reality, you will have something to strive for beyond a life that is built around drugs and alcohol.
Think About Tomorrow, Not What Feels Good Today
If you have trouble doing what you’ve been told is right, it’s not your fault. Research has shown that teenagers and young adults have not yet fully developed their goal setting mechanisms, so it may be harder for you to choose more positive long-term goals over what feels good now. And if you use alcohol and drugs, you may damage your goal-setting skills even further.
At ARMS, we’ll work on all of these issues at the same time that we’re preparing you to address your substance use. Our Recovery Coaches will help you to see which of your current behaviors, such as drinking and using drugs, don’t match up with your goals and values. We’ll then work with you to identify new behaviors and achievable steps that will lead you to reach your goals.
We won’t tell you what to do or be. Instead, we’ll help you choose where you want to go in your life. Our recovery management approaches will support you while you make lifestyle changes that will sustain your ongoing recovery, independence and happiness.
