What is ARMS?
ARMS gives teenagers and young adults between the ages of 15 and 25, and their families, an individualized, all encompassing approach to treating their substance-related problems. We also help our patients set goals for their overall health and well-being and their transition to adulthood.
All Are Welcome
All are welcome at ARMS. We can be a valuable resource for those still thinking about making changes, those taking the first, small step towards treatment, or those enrolling in ARMS to fully pursue their recovery and overall wellness.
We offer one-time consultations for those families who do not wish to enroll in our program. We also provide coaching to the families of young adults with substance-related problems who aren’t ready to seek treatment themselves.
Unlike other treatment programs, we will work with those who are unsure they even have a problem, and those not yet ready to commit to sobriety. Once enrolled in our program, patients cannot be expelled, no matter what they do.
Recovery Begins with a Real Understanding
Every enrollment begins with a comprehensive evaluation that is completed by an experienced clinician with expertise in substance-related problems and conditions. All previous medical and psychiatric records are reviewed for an understanding of childhood history, and an assessment of current presenting symptoms, including:
- Strengths
- Weaknesses
- Family History
- Existing psychiatric conditions, such as:
- Mood Order
- Anxiety Disorder
- Depression
- ADHD
- Inattention problems
Our multidisciplinary team writes a report that includes a complete portrait of the patient and a proposed treatment plan.
Treatment plans often include an element of medical stabilization. ARMS guides patients through traditional inpatient, residential and/or outpatient services. We provide rapid access to information and support combined with outreach and care management.
Treating the Whole Family
The core of the ARMS program is a unique set of Recovery Support Services, which are provided by masters-level clinicians who serve as Recovery Coaches. Our patients and their families are each assigned their own Recovery Coach. We work with the whole family, treating any coexisting issues that may be present and supporting family members to overcome any stigma or shame they may feel.
Setting Positive Goals
We help our patients choose positive behaviors instead of the destructive behaviors they have favored in the past. We use the latest research evidence to inform our approaches. For example, we employ the Adolescent-Community Reinforcement Approach (A-CRA) to help our patients set goals and minimize obstacles, such as alcohol and drug use, in order to achieve the life they want for themselves. This has been shown to be an effective and affordable treatment specifically tailored to young people.
We are dedicated to helping our patients and their families face challenges and struggles as they arise and ease the process of achieving long-term recovery.
